Friends Helping Friends: Using Your Digital Marketing for Specific Niches

Share

The key to a successful digital marketing approach is being able to identify your agency’s niches. Astonish Results CEO and Founder Adam DeGraide put it best when he described the use of social media marketing in niches as, “friends helping friends”. Your friends, fans, and followers alike are your key to narrowing down what niches will maximize your presence in the community. He sat down with Brian Tarpey, President of Tarpey Group in Fairfield, NJ to discuss the success his agency is yielding from networking with niches in social media.

Tarpey discussed the agency’s professional relationship with many educational fronts.  After they identified this trend, they were able to become involved with local associations relevant to their New Jersey business insurance clients. Social media allowed relationship building and networking in real time and also made communicating the agency’s involvement much easier to their fans and followers. It also allowed the agency to promote more than insurance; they used their social media platforms to promote different charities and events that aligned with their niche.

The results the Tarpey Group received comes directly from what we like to call—community building. Utilize the information you have from your client base to identify the niche or niches that best suit your agency. Whether it is education, health and wellness, etc., chances are you will find a trend you can use to maximize your marketing efforts. Once you’ve done so, it’s crucial to stay up to date on news and events, ensuring you are networking properly. Using digital outlets, like Facebook and Twitter will speed up the process and expose you to endless amounts of people in your community interested in the niche you are narrowing in on. Social Media instantaneously showcases what a direct mailing make have taken several weeks and precious funds to accomplish!

Becoming active in the niches of your clients’ community is the first step in building your social community; hence, the relevance of “friends helping friends” both literally and digitally! In order to maximize your agency on social media fronts, you need to identify trends and use the speed of the internet to provide relevant content and conversations in real time. Use your client’s interests as research to understand potential niches. Just as you would know the likes and dislikes of your actual friends, you should take the time to know those of your digital friends. Aside from knowing who your clients are, the most important tool you need to be relevant and reputable in your social community is to be active in your actual community. When you help friends, they in return will help you!

Why a Dual-Monitor Setup Is More Efficient

Share

Those of us at Astonish Results that have had the experience of working with a dual-monitor setup each day thoroughly enjoy it. It is a safe bet that most of us could never go back to using only one monitor. Since Windows has the support for dual monitors built in its interface, it is actually more cost-effective to use multiple 20-inch monitors instead of a large 37” monitor.

Chris LaChance, Creative Director at Astonish Results, is one of many employees who uses a dual-monitor setup!

“I love this setup because it is easier to switch back and forth between programs,” Chris LaChance, Creative Director at Astonish Results said. “Throughout the day, I can keep Outlook open all day on one screen and a browser open in the other.”

For those of us that work with two monitors, what benefits does it offer? How can we efficiently utilize two screens throughout our workday?

Drag applications between screens. If you are only using one monitor, you are faced with overlapping windows and taskbars which can make it more difficult to get your work done.  With a dual-monitor setup, you can have your email open in one screen along with a word-processing program or web browser open in another. You are free to organize which works best for you, but using two monitors eliminates the constant shuffling back and forth between applications. Using only one browser at a time and collecting too many open tabs can increase the chances of your computer freezing, crashing, or underperforming. Where you decide to utilize your browsers is up to you!

Two screens in one. One of the best features about this setup is that it allows for navigation between both screens. For example, if you start with your mouse arrow on your left screen and begin to move to the right, you can move your mouse cursor all the way to the right screen. This gives you the impression that you are working on one screen.

Easier organization. If you use a lot of software applications, your desktop can become cluttered very quickly. With only one screen, navigation between applications can take so much longer. It is recommended to keep any software applications or system utilities on the right side and keep Internet browsers on the left. However, your personal preference may vary.

It is always better to have two monitors than one because you can never have enough screen space. No matter what field you work in, utilizing a dual-monitor setup can increase your productivity because you will save a lot more time throughout your day.  If you can determine the best way to keep your programs organized, your life will be so much easier!

Although this setup is no longer new, its popularity has truly risen due to the fact that prices of LCD monitors are dropping. Configuring this upgrade might even be more popular if more people were aware of how simple it is to install along with the low costs associated with monitors today. The benefits of a dual-monitor setup can be reaped for both businesses and individuals. Once you start using two monitors, you may be wondering how you went so long before making the switch.

Her role as Social Media Specialist bares a great amount of responsibility. Her official duties consist of working on teaching and advising Astonish’s new clients on the basics of social media while establishing their accounts to maximize their community presence. Additionally, she is also responsible for client analysis and consultation regarding their Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages.

From her very first interview, Jenn immediately knew she wanted to be a part of the great team at Astonish!

“From the minute I walked in for my interview, something clicked for me. I liked the atmosphere, the people, and the concept of the company,” Jenn said. “I really liked the fact that at Astonish, my work and projects would be reflected in the company’s progress and that I wouldn’t be just a number.”

Q&A with Jenn:

Favorite Foods? Anything gluten free, but I’m pretty sure I could live my life comfortably with only banana chips and nutella.

Favorite Beverages? Coffee! My coffee consumption would probably be considered deadly for most humans.
Favorite Music Artists/Bands?  Journey, and no, not only “Don’t Stop Believing” and not this “fake me out” Journey claiming to now tour the US. I’m talking the REAL Journey, with Steve Perry on lead vocals.
Favorite TV Shows? Dexter and Mad Men are my absolute favorites, but if you name it, chances are I’ve probably watched at least one or two episodes.
Favorite Movies? Funny Girl and The Way We Were
Favorite Sports Teams, if any? Boston Red Sox, hence the shrine in my cube.

Employee of the Month: David Osowa

Share

Congratulations to Astonish Results’ David Osowa, who was recently named Employee of the Month!

David originally grew up in East Greenwich, RI, but has lived in many different places over the last few years including Hartford, CT, Park City, UT, and Boston, MA. David received his MBA from Babson College in Wellesley, MA in 2007 and spent his undergraduate career at Trinity College in Hartford, CT, majoring in political science.

Last April, David jumped on board with Astonish as the Director of Search Engine Marketing (SEM). Since beginning his career at Astonish, he has been responsible for running the daily activities of the SEM team and has taken on the responsibility of building, monitoring, and optimizing SEM campaigns for all of Astonish’s new clients.  Additionally, he is in charge of premium PPC (Pay-per-click) campaigns for clients who have completed their initial budget spend. Ultimately, David is responsible for managing nearly 100 SEM campaigns!

Employee of the Month David Osowa along with Astonish Executives John Boudreau, Tim Sawyer, and Adam DeGraide!

“I wanted to take my experience running PPC campaigns for a large digital marketing agency in Boston and apply it to a smaller company with a start-up attitude”, David Osowa says. “I liked the flexibility to build and manage a department according to how I feel an SEM department should be run, and I love the fact that I can bring new ideas to the company and implement them as I see fit.“

David is also Astonish’s Vice President of Useless YouTube Video Distribution for the Internet Marketing team on Friday’s.

Before joining the Astonish team, David worked as a Client Services Manager at iProspect in Boston, MA. There, he was responsible for overseeing client strategies for both organic (SEO) and paid (SEM) search marketing.

Outside of his role as Director of SEM, David loves to spend time traveling with his wife Sarah and his friends. Whenever David has a free moment, you can most likely find him enjoying the outdoors. A lot of his trips revolve around skiing, which is a huge passion of his. He spends a lot of his time taking his Portuguese Water Dog, Lucy, to the beach in Nantucket during the summer.  David also describes himself as an unabashed, frequently irrational Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins fan.

Since David has come from an agency that has dealt with larger clients, he has found his role at Astonish to be most gratifying.

“Coming from an agency that dealt with larger clients (and similarly large marketing budgets), I like having the ability to positively impact the smaller, family owned agencies that we work with,” David said. “I also have really enjoyed the relationships that I’ve been able to develop in my short time here at Astonish.  Positive attitudes are contagious!”
